WHAT I THOUGHT OF VENICE, CALIFORNIA
Venice broadway, now don't get me wrong... Venice in Los Angeles is a great place, super quirky and filled with cool people. However, it's also kind of grim and after 2 days, I got very bored. Now, this is coming from a perspective of someone who just got off the plane and first went to Venice, without a skateboard, which was mistake number 1. Although that being said, I was expecting more. Now I wasn't staying that far away, it was about a 25-30 minute walk away so I pretty much walked around the 5 days I was in Venice, along the beach pathway I walked literally from Marina Del Rey all the way to Santa Monica.
Marina Del Rey, well there isn't much down there. A few really nice restaurants, but apart from that boring as hell. My fav go to spot was actually the pier in Venice, walk all the way to the bottom and you have great views across the horizon. Stop half way and you got great view of all the surfers, bobbing on the surface of the water waiting for that next wave to catch. Then Santa Monica is just a even bigger tourist trap than Venice Broadway, with the amusement park on the pier, it's just gross. Wasn't my scene at all. OH! To make matters worse, I wasn't even allowed to fly my drone, which meant that Venice was a bit of a waste of time for me.
But, that's just my opinion. If you do end up going to Venice, make sure you check out this ace little bar/restaurant called Brennan's. It's right on Lincoln Boulevard, just off Washington Boulevard. Every 3rd Thursday they have turtle racing and their selection of beers is superb, I pretty much spent every night here drinking and eating (make sure you try their pizza's). If you do end up going to Brennan's because you're reading this, say that I (PARIS) sent you and I'm sure some of the staff with remember who I am, especially if Eddie or Anthony is working (Anthony will most likely be the bouncer you see as soon as you walk and ID you).
Brennan's was probably the highlight of my visit to Venice, but then again I probably didn't do it properly. I was still super jet lagged and adapting to the time difference, getting about 3 hours sleep every night. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoyed myself because I was out of the UK and in LA enjoying the 20+ degrees weather you call Winter.
